IN DEPTH
Ear syringing at our clinic is performed using warm, controlled water irrigation to safely and effectively remove excess ear wax or debris from the ear canal. This method allows gentle clearance while minimising discomfort and protecting the sensitive structures of the ear.

Before treatment, a thorough examination of the ear is carried out to confirm that water irrigation is clinically appropriate. Ear syringing is not suitable for individuals with a current or previous perforated eardrum, a history of ear surgery affecting the eardrum or certain ongoing ear conditions. If there are signs or symptoms suggestive of infection, such as pain, discharge or significant inflammation, ear syringing will not be performed.

The procedure itself is usually painless, although some individuals may experience mild pressure or a temporary sensation of fullness during irrigation. Care is taken throughout to ensure the treatment is controlled, safe and tailored to the individual’s anatomy and symptoms.

Ear syringing can help improve hearing, relieve discomfort and reduce complications associated with wax impaction, including irritation, tinnitus and balance disturbance. If an ear infection is suspected at any stage, assessment and management may be provided through our General Practice service, ensuring appropriate medical care and continuity of treatment.

During your appointment
After your appoinment
Prepare for your appointment by noting any ear-related symptoms, previous ear problems or current medications. Inform the clinician of any ear surgeries or medical conditions affecting the ear.
The clinician will assess the ear to confirm suitability for syringing. The ear canal is gently irrigated and wax or foreign material is removed under controlled conditions. The procedure is tailored to ensure comfort and safety throughout.
Mild temporary irritation or sensitivity in the ear may occur. Normal activities can generally be resumed immediately. Follow-up can be arranged if needed to monitor ear health or repeat treatment.
